Member Spotlight June 2020: Sheldon Dueck

Sheldon Dueck is in our Athlete Spotlight this month! Please read below for his bio.

Sheldon plays both golf and hockey, and is a past president of Manitoba Golf Club. He has many golf accolades, including finishing in the top 6 in several Canadian Deaf golf championships, and playing on the 2018 Canadian team at the World Deaf Golf Championship in Ireland. Sheldon coordinated and ran the Canadian Deaf golf camp in Steinbach in spring 2019 to give Deaf players an opportunity to practice and improve their skills.

In his spare time, Sheldon enjoys spending time with his wife (Hilary) and two boys (Elijah and Benjamin). He also enjoys crunching numbers which fits well in one of his favorite hobbies, fantasy hockey and golf pools. As the summer approaches, he looks forward to getting back on the golf course to improve his game hoping to qualify for future World Deaf Golf Championships.

Sheldon would like to thank the entire deaf community for making him feel welcome over the past 20 years being involved in Deaf and Hard of Hearing sports.  He is trying to learn sign language and it comes slowly; however the patience of the community has been outstanding, and he looks forward to many more years getting to know many of you!

Congratulations on being nominated Sheldon. MDSA is proud to have you as a member!
